Today, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow and CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), Lucknow have signed a collaborative MoU to promote joint research, academic exchange, and innovation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in cancer and biomedical sciences. Under this collaboration, both institutions will undertake joint research programs, explore traineeship opportunities for students at CSIR-CDRI, facilitate faculty exchange, share advanced instrumentation facilities as per institutional guidelines, and jointly submit research proposals to funding agencies. This partnership aims to strengthen translational research, capacity building, and improvement of healthcare in the community through the output of the research. On this occasion, The Director General, CSIR-CDRI, Director, KSSSCI, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director, CSIR-CDRI, Executive Registrar, Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay were present and expressed their commitment to fostering impactful collaborative research and academic excellence through this initiative.

An awareness program was organized today by the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute, Lucknow, on the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. The program was successfully conducted under the guidance of the Institute Director, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, and the Head of Department, Dr. Geetika Pant. The main objective of the program was to increase awareness among society and healthcare workers regarding childhood cancers, while emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment. On this occasion, Dr. Geetika Pant stated, “With timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, most childhood cancer cases have a high chance of complete recovery. Awareness among society, parents, and healthcare professionals is essential to ensure a safe and healthy future for children.” Associate Professor Dr. Rakhi Jain delivered a detailed talk highlighting the life journey of cancer survivors, the challenges faced during treatment, and the importance of social and psychological support after recovery. During the program, childhood cancer survivors shared their experiences and spoke about their inspiring journeys. They were also felicitated and awarded by the department in recognition of their courage and resilience. The event was attended by the Institute’s Dean, Dr. Sabuhi Qureshi; CMS Dr. Vijendra, Executive Registrar, Dr. Ayush Lohia; Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay, along with faculty members, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. On the occasion of World Cancer Awareness Week 2026, a Cancer Awareness Program was organized at Primary School, Amethi Area, Gosainganj, District Lucknow. The objective of this program was to create awareness among school teachers, staff, and students about prevention and treatment of cancer, a serious and life-threatening disease. The program focused on educating participants about the causes, symptoms, and the importance of early detection of cancer. The program was attended by the school Principal Mrs. Santosh Rai, teacher Mr. Varsun Sahat, along with other teachers and staff members of the school. All attendees appreciated and welcomed this public awareness initiative. Under the Cancer Awareness Program, experts from the Public Health Department of KSSSCI (Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute) conducted the awareness session. The team included Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Dr. Anshu Singh, Associate Professor, Public Health Department, Nursing Officer Ms. Shweta Upadhyay, and Mrs. Kashish. The experts discussed various types of cancers, associated risk factors, available treatment options, and emphasized that timely screening and early diagnosis can help in effective control of cancer. Discussions were also held with local community members highlighting that a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, regular exercise, and timely medical check-ups play a crucial role in preventing and managing even serious diseases like cancer.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, a “Cancer Awareness Week” was organized at Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow. As part of the programme, a Blood Donation Camp was organized in the Department of Transfusion Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Anju Dubey, during which a total of 40 units of blood were collected. Under the activities of Cancer Awareness Week, several cancer survivors shared their inspiring life journeys, motivating patients and the general public. A quiz on cancer awareness was also organized to enhance public knowledge and awareness about cancer. On this occasion, the Director of the Institute, Prof. M. L. B. Bhatt, stated that the World Cancer Day 2026 theme “United by Unique” conveys the message that every cancer patient’s journey is unique, yet by standing united—with awareness, timely treatment, positive thinking, and human compassion—we can fight cancer more effectively. Present on the occasion were Dr. Vijendra, Dr. Varun Vijay, Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Dr. Sabuhi Qureshi, Dr. Pramod Kumar Gupta, along with faculty members, resident doctors, and paramedical staff of the institute. The objective of the programme was to increase public awareness about cancer, highlight the importance of early detection and timely treatment, and promote humanitarian activities such as blood donation.

The state-of-the-art CyberKnife machine was unveiled today at the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow, by the Institute's Director, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Dr. Sharad Singh, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Pramod Kumar Gupta, Dr. Rumita Singh, and the Institute's Finance Officer, Mr. Rajnikant Verma. In his address, Prof. Bhatt stated that the CyberKnife technology will provide cancer patients with extremely precise, safe, and advanced treatment facilities. This machine will prove highly effective in treating complex tumors without surgery, in a short time, and with minimal side effects. He said that the installation of this machine will enable cancer patients not only from Uttar Pradesh but also from neighboring states to receive world-class treatment at the institute itself, eliminating the need for them to travel elsewhere. The Institute's Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay, informed that the machine will require testing and approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) before it can be used for patients, which may take 2-3 months.

CyberKnife Facility Inaugurated at Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow

Today, the Public Health Department of Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Lucknow organized a Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness Program at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Turiaganj, Lucknow. The program witnessed active participation from the Medical Officer In-Charge of CHC Turiaganj, Dr. Geetanjali Singh, Junior Resident Dr. Diksha Pathak, Nursing Officer Kashish Kashyap, Field Officer Sushil Yadav, along with other healthcare personnel. During the program, participants were provided detailed information about the major risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early detection of breast cancer. It was explained that the presence of a lump in the breast or armpit, changes in the size or shape of the breast, blood or any abnormal discharge from the nipple, dimpling of the breast skin, redness, or shrinkage could be potential signs of breast cancer. It was also emphasized that even a painless lump can be dangerous, and therefore any abnormal change should not be ignored. Addressing the gathering, Junior Resident Dr. Diksha Pathak stated that early detection and accurate information can make breast cancer treatment highly successful. She also highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, regular exercise, and periodic screening. On this occasion, Nursing Officer Kashish Kashyap and Field Officer Sushil Yadav also educated people about the screening process and encouraged women to undergo regular breast cancer screening. The primary objective of the program was to increase awareness about breast cancer among women and the community, dispel myths, and motivate people towards timely screening and treatment.

During the ceremony, the echo of the National Anthem filled the campus, reflecting a strong sense of patriotism and unity among all present. On the occasion of National Voters’ Day on 25/01/2026, an oath-taking ceremony was organized at Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow. The program was successfully conducted under the guidance of the Institute’s Director, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt. On this occasion, Medical Superintendent Dr. Varun Vijay administered the oath on voter awareness and democratic values to the doctors, residents, nursing staff, and employees present. The Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Vijendra Kumar, was also present during the program. Officers and staff members from all departments of the Institute participated enthusiastically and pledged their active involvement in the democratic process. The event proved to be an important initiative towards promoting voter awareness and encouraging the spirit of responsible citizenship.

A Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was organized today by the Public Health Department of Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute, Lucknow at the Community Health Centre, Aishbagh, Lucknow. The programme witnessed active participation from Dr. Somnath Singh, Medical Superintendent, CHC, Aishbagh, along with Dr. Ranjana Rani, Dr. Ismita Dwivedi, other health staff, and members of the general public. During the programme, detailed information was provided on the major risk factors and symptoms of breast cancer. The participants were informed that the presence of a lump in the breast or armpit, changes in the size or shape of the breast, bleeding or any abnormal discharge from the nipple, dimpling of the breast skin, redness, or skin retraction could be possible warning signs of breast cancer. It was also emphasized that a painless lump can be equally dangerous, and any abnormal change should not be ignored. While addressing the gathering, Dr. Diksha Pathak from the Public Health Department, Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Lucknow stated that early detection and timely diagnosis play a crucial role in the successful treatment of breast cancer. She also highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, regular physical activity, and periodic screening in reducing the risk of cancer. On this occasion, Ms. Shweta Upadhyay from the Nursing Department of the Cancer Institute, along with other healthcare workers, actively participated and supported the awareness activities.
