Tobacco cessation clinic to start soon at Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute- Director, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt
Today, World No Tobacco Day 2025 program was organized at Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute with the theme “Exposing the Temptation”. The objective of this program is to raise awareness about cancer caused by tobacco products and to make the society understand that cancer can be prevented with timely and proper treatment.
In this program, Professor Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt, Director, Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute, Lucknow, emphasized on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. He said that people who consume pan-masala, betel nut, tobacco, khaini, gutkha etc. should take the risk of cancer seriously. He said that 80% of cancer patients are tobacco consumers, so people should not turn a blind eye to this truth. The tobacco and nicotine industries are working in a dishonest manner to mislead and addict the youth, just for their profits, every day these industries target the new generation and to retain the existing users they create products which are deliberately addictive. Their misleading advertisements and clever strategies are designed to trap the children and youth. We have to protect our young generation from the misleading advertisements and propaganda being run by this industry.
He also announced that a Tobacco Cessation Clinic (CCL) will be started soon in the Institute under the supervision of the Department of Public Health and Director, KSSSCI.
Dr Pramod Kumar Gupta, Radiation Oncology and Dr AyushLohia, Department of Public Health, organized the event. In his welcome address, Dr AyushLohia said that 1 in every 4 people in India consumes tobacco, with consumption in rural areas being higher than in urban areas. Women who consume tobacco can also suffer from cancer. Dr. AyushLohia also mentioned that 20% of cancer patients are caused by smokeless tobacco consumption, 10% by smoking and 3% by both types of consumption. Even consumption of Paan, Supari and Katha can cause cancer such as oral cancer, gum and palate cancer.
Dr. Vijendra Kumar, Oral Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay, Medical Superintendent, Mr. Rajni Kant Verma, Finance Officer and other faculty members were present in today's program.

The Department of Public Health, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, in collaboration with Health Technology Assessment India (HTAIn), has organized a Dissemination Workshop on Breast Cancer Screening on April 24, 2025.
The workshop aimed to share the findings of a recent HTA report on breast cancer screening in India and to promote evidence-based decision-making in healthcare.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Pinky Jowel, IAS, Managing Director, National Health Mission, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who served as the Chief Guest. In her address, Dr. Jowel emphasized the importance of breast cancer screening. She also mentioned the Ayushman Arogya Mandir, and the need for collaboration between the premiere institutes. Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Department of BSBE, IIT Kanpur, who joined as Guest of Honour also stated that collaboration between IIT, Kanpur and KSSSCI will foster innovation in cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
The inaugural session also featured remarks by Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director, KSSSCI, Dr. Sharad Singh, Executive Registrar; Prof. Sabuhi Qureshi, Dean; and Dr. Manish Kumar Singh, RMLIMS, Lucknow.
Highlights of the workshop included the release of the HTA report on Breast Cancer Screening in India by all dignitaries, followed by technical sessions covering key aspects of breast cancer in the Indian context. The report was written and compiled under the supervision of Dr. Ayush Lohia who served as the Principal Investigator of the HTA project. He told that results of this research can help in decreasing deaths due to breast cancer in India. Clinical breast examination by health workers can prevent females from getting cancer and will reduce the deaths among females. Breast cancer screening can also reduce the financial burden for treatment of breast cancer andwho served as the Organizing Secretary and Principal Investigator of the HTA project.

KSSSCI and HTAIn Organize Dissemination Workshop on Breast Cancer Screening to Promote Evidence-Based Healthcare

In a landmark step towards advancing cancer care and research in India, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur (IIT Director Manindra Agrawal and KSSSCI, Director, Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today on 23 April 2025 to expand oncological services and foster innovation in cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between one of the country’s leading cancer research institutes and one of India’s premier technology and research institutions. The partnership is aimed at enhancing clinical and technological capabilities in oncology through the exchange of scientists, collaborative research, and development of novel interventions.
Objectives of the MoU:
Joint research initiatives focusing on cutting-edge oncological solutions
Development and deployment of new technologies for early cancer detection and treatment
Exchange of scientific expertise and faculties for collaborative learning and innovation
Speaking on the occasion, senior officials from both institutions emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the complex challenges of cancer care. This partnership is expected to bring transformative advancements in patient-centric cancer solutions, integrating medical science with technological innovation.
This collaboration underlines a shared commitment to improving cancer outcomes and represents a significant step forward in India’s fight against cancer.

KSSSCI and IIT Kanpur Sign MoU to Foster Innovation in Cancer Research, Prevention, and Treatment

On 15 April 2025, a program "Social Harmony and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar" was organized on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Kalyan Singh Superspeciality Cancer Institute. On this occasion, Padmashree Prof. SN Kuril, former head  Department of Paediatric Surgery and Shri Brijlal, IPS, MP Rajya Sabha and former Director General of Police Uttar Pradesh as the chief guest were present.
The program began with the lighting of the lamp and the performance based on the life of Dr. Ambedkar. After this, the Chief Guest (Mr. Brijlal), the distinguished guest (Padmashree Prof. SN Kuril) and the Director of the Institute (Prof. Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt) highlighted the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar and said that he is not only the constitution maker, but also a symbol of social harmony, education and equality.

Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's 135th birth anniversary ceremony

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, an awareness programme was conducted under the leadership of Director, KSSSCI. All the female faculty, residents and staff assembled in OPD first floor on 08th March 2025 at 11:00AM to celebrate International Women’s Day, to spread awareness about female cancer and also to honour the incredible strength and resilience of cancer patients and survivors.
In this programme, Dr. S. Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine talked about nutrition and healthy diet, and Dr. Sabuhi Qureshi, Professor & Head, Department of Gynaecological Oncology talked about cervical cancer prevention, HPV vaccination and Pap smear and HPV test and Dr. Rumita Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology talked about breast cancer and self-breast examination. 
It was attended by female faculty including Dr. Indubala Maurya, Dr. Gitika Pant, Dr. Deepti Mishra, Dr. Shrestha Ghosh, Dr. Rakhi Jain, Senior and Junior Residents, Nursing staff, Hospital attendants, patients and relatives.

KSSSCI Observes International Women’s Day with Awareness Programme on Female Cancers

Today a delegation from Egypt, visited the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Hospital. The delegation comprised of Doctors and officials from Egypt and was accompanied by Priyanka pathak  Senior Technical specialist, Ayushman Bharat.  The delegation was welcomed by Director Prof MLB Bhatt, who gave an introduction about the initiation of PMJAY at Institute since 20/04/2023 and also about the other patient beneficiary services like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Cashless Treatment scheme for State Employees, CM Relief Fund, PM Relief Fund and other such schemes. The visiting delegation was impressed by the rapid strides of patient beneficiary schemes at KSSSCI, particularly the AYUSHMAN(PMJAY) scheme. Dr Ruchi Saxena In-charge PED Cell presented the data and salient features of various schemes. CMS, MS and other officials were present and took the delegation for a round of the Institute. The delegation was particularly interested in the functioning of PMJAY and other schemes at the institute.

Egyptian Delegation Visits KSSSCI to Review Patient Beneficiary Schemes and PMJAY Implementation

Today a MoU has been signed between Centre of BioMedical Research (CBMR) and Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow for academic and research collaboration between the renowned institutions.
Prof. Alok Dhawan, Director, CBMR and Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director, KSSSCI ahs signed and exchange the MoU for possible collaboration in the field of oncology research between the institutions, which may lead the world class research and impact for the policy makers and ultimate benefit to the patients.
Both the institutions involve their faculties to generate the collaborative research, development of joint projects, and exchange of ideas, which may lead to innovative research.
The clinicians of the KSSSCI will interact with the scientists of the CBMR in the field of Proteomics and Genomics research, use of functional MRI for various type of analysis on tissue samples of the patients and may develop better results in the respective area of research also both the organizations will work together in the development AI techniques in radiological imaging using large number of pool data in the department of Radiation Oncology.
Similarly, the Dept. of Gynaecology, Surgical oncology and Dentistry of KSSSCI will collaborate with the scientists of CBMR to develop innovative techniques, which may lead to a patent.
Both the directors agreed for the brainstorming session to be organized at KSSSCI and CBMR jointly, so that the clinicians and scientists sit together for the exchange of ideas, which may lead to development of protocols for world class joint research.

The MoU was signed & exchange between IEC & Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Lucknow.
Director Prof. M. L. B. Bhatt welcome the all-committee members with gratitude & expressed his designed that the committee guide young researcher for application of ethical principal in biomedical health research and he also expressed his view that more interactive session and lectures to be conducted by the Institute on ethical principal for benefit of medical fidelity. Prof. Sabuhi Qureshi (Dean), Prof. Sharad Singh (Executive Registrar), Dr. Ayush Lohiya (Associate Professor) and other faculty members were present in the meeting

Institute Ethics Committee meeting

Today, on 17.02.2025, at Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, the 3rd Institutional Research Committee (IRC) meeting was held in the DMG Room, OPD Building.
The Director, KSSSCI, welcomed all the external and internal members of the committee for reviewing the projects and also stressed on the need for doing quality of research at this institute so that the patient gets ultimate benefit and improve the quality of life.
11 Intramural Projects were presented by PIs with the tune of Rs.34 (Lakh Approx.) and these projects were reviewed by the committee chaired by Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director, KSSSCI. 02 External members has attended the meeting through online mode and one external member, Prof. Shally Awasthi, attended the meeting in person. The meeting was attend by internal members from the Institute. The meeting was organised by Dr. Sharad Singh, Faculty In-charge (Research), KSSSCI.
The above committee had also reviewed the annual reports of the 20 previously sanctioned intramural projects by the Institute.
The outcome of the research work on newly sanctioned Intramural project will definitely improve the quality of life for the cancer patient.
