On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute  successfully organized an awareness program to highlight the importance of hepatitis prevention, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment. The event took place under the guidance of the Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director of the Institute and was spearheaded by Dr. S. Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine. The program was graced by the presence of the Director, KSSSCI, , Chief Medical Superintendent, Medical Superintendent, Dean, and all faculty members, whose participation reflected the institutional commitment to public health awareness and community engagement.
The program aimed to educate and engage the community—patients, caregivers, faculty, and hospital staff—about hepatitis, a global health concern that affects millions every year. A series of activities were held throughout the day to promote awareness, including Educational Sessions on hepatitis prevention, symptoms, and treatment options; a Poster Competition to creatively represent facts and strategies for hepatitis control, a Quiz Competition to test and enhance knowledge among attendees and Free screening for Hepatitis B and C, during which 120 patients and their caregivers were tested. Participants included patients, their caregivers, healthcare professionals, and support staff, all of whom actively contributed to making the event meaningful and impactful.
The event reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to community health education and the fight against preventable diseases like hepatitis. World Hepatitis Day is observed globally on July 28 every year and serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat.

KSSSCI Observes World Hepatitis Day 2025 with Awareness Program, Screening, and Educational Activities

Under the guidance of Director Prof. Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt and the leadership of Dr.AyushLohia, the first four-day “Quality of Evidence” workshop was successfully organized at Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Lucknow. The institute is the first in the state and the second in the country to host such a workshop.
A total of 40 participants took part in this workshop, including doctors from medical colleges, scientists from ICMR, students, and researchers. The participants came from 15 different states, notably Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
This Quality of Evidence workshop was organized under SARANSH-2 by ICMR and DHR, and included training from experts of ICMR, DHR, AIIMS, KGMU, BHU, and KSSSCI. Faculty members involved in the training included Dr. Rizwan, Dr. Aditi Mohta, Dr. Abhishek Jaiswal, Dr.Farhad Ahmad, Dr. Pradeep Kharya, Dr. Rama Shankar Rath, Dr.Balendra Pratap Singh, Dr. Manish Kumar Singh, Dr.Geetika Pant, and Dr.Indubala Maurya.
This workshop holds great significance for both the state and central governments as it will provide them with strong and reliable evidence, based on which better and more effective policies can be formulated. It will enable decision-making based on accurate information, ultimately benefiting society and the healthcare system. This will contribute towards improving the health of people at both state and national levels.
From the doctors’ perspective, the workshop will support their clinical decision-making by providing them with credible evidence to guide their choices. They will be empowered to make informed and trustworthy clinical decisions.
This workshop will also benefit patients, as it will help them understand how and why their treatment is being given. Patients will feel more confident and informed about their care, leading to better shared decision-making with their doctors.
In the field of medicine and research, the workshop will aid in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and the proper use of medicines. It will be beneficial for both state and central governments, as well as for doctors and scientists.
The main objective of this program is to provide teaching and training to doctors and scientists to support policy-making. This workshop is highly significant in enhancing the quality of research and evidence generation.

National Doctor's Day Celebration in Institute.

A state-level sensitization meeting was held at Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, to discuss the expansion of telemedicine services for cancer care. The meeting was chaired by Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director of KSSSCI.
Telemedicine services have already been launched at KSSSCI, enabling patients to consult doctors online. This service is especially beneficial for patients living in remote and rural areas, who often struggle to access specialized medical care. Dr. Bhatt emphasized that with telemedicine, patients will no longer need to travel long distances to receive expert advice. He explained the hub-and-spoke model, under which KSSSCI will serve as the central hub, supporting district hospitals and medical colleges through digital platforms to provide cancer care.
The meeting highlighted that telemedicine allows patients in rural and remote areas to receive expert consultations without the need to travel, facilitates early detection and treatment of cancer, and also provides opportunities for doctors to access continuous medical education (CME) and expert guidance online.
Dr. Alka Sharma, Nodal Head, NCD, Government of Uttar Pradesh, informed the participants that the state government has already identified 38 day care centers for cancer care, and a pilot project involving 11 main hubs has already started. These centers will offer screening, awareness, treatment, palliative care, and referral services, helping to ensure a more structured approach to cancer management across the state.
Prof. Sheetal Verma, Nodal Officer, Telemedicine, KGMU, recommended that the KSSSCI telemedicine platform be connected to the national eSanjeevani portal to increase reach and integration. She assured that KGMU is prepared to train faculty from district hospitals and medical colleges in cancer care protocols in telemedicine, thereby building capacity at the grassroots level. Dr. Navbir, Nodal officer, Telemedicine, RMLIMS also gave her consent to be a part of this initiative. 
Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Head of the Public Health Department and Nodal Officer for Telemedicine at KSSSCI, extended a vote of thanks and shared that KSSSCI will soon take the lead in working with the Uttar Pradesh Government to establish a state-wide telemedicine cancer care network. He added that this initiative will help build a strong referral system between district hospitals and medical colleges and will involve the preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure uniform and high-quality service delivery. Dr. Priyanka, Associate Professor, Gynecological Oncology, KSSSCI also emphasized on the importance of telemedicine in oncology
The meeting was attended by principals of 7 medical colleges and representatives from 6 district hospitals, who shared their experiences, suggestions, and feedback. Discussions were also held on how to further improve and strengthen telemedicine services across the state. This meeting marked a significant step toward advancing digital healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, making cancer care more accessible, timely, and patient-friendly.

Sensitization Meeting on Cancer Telemedicine Services Held at KSSSCI, Lucknow

"कल्याण सिंह अति विशिष्ट कैंसर संस्थान, लखनऊ" में "11वाँ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस" बड़े उत्साह और अनुशासन के साथ मनाया गया। इस अवसर पर "15 जून से 21 जून, 2025" तक "योग सप्ताह" का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें संस्थान के समस्त चिकित्सकों, कर्मचारियों एवं स्टाफ ने सक्रिय भागीदारी की।

यह संपूर्ण आयोजन संस्थान के निदेशक, प्रो. एम.एल.बी.भट्ट जी, के मार्गदर्शन में सम्पन्न हुआ। उनके नेतृत्व में योग को दैनिक जीवन में अपनाने हेतु संस्थान में जागरूकता और अभ्यास दोनों को एक साथ समाहित किया गया।

इस कार्यक्रम में मुख्य चिकित्सा अधीक्षक, डॉ. विजेन्द्र कुमार, चिकित्सा अधीक्षक, डॉ. वरुण विजय एवं डा. एस. प्रिया जी की सक्रिय सहभागिता रही। संस्थान द्वारा आमंत्रित प्रशिक्षित योग शिक्षकों ने 
फैकल्टी सदस्यों, रेजिडेंट्स, नर्सिंग स्टाफ, तकनीकी कर्मियों एवं अन्य कर्मचारियों को योगाभ्यास कराया।

योग में प्राणायाम, ध्यान, आसनों एवं शरीर-मन के संतुलन से संबंधित विभिन्न क्रियाओं का अभ्यास कराया गया। सभी प्रतिभागियों ने पूरे मनोयोग से योग किया और इसके शारीरिक, मानसिक एवं आध्यात्मिक लाभों को अनुभव किया।

इस अवसर पर निदेशक महोदय ने अपने संदेश में कहा कि “योग न केवल शरीर की व्याधियों से मुक्ति दिलाने का माध्यम है, बल्कि यह मानसिक शांति, अनुशासन और जीवन शैली सुधार का एक समग्र विज्ञान है।”

कार्यक्रम का समापन सामूहिक योग अभ्यास के साथ हुआ, जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में प्रतिभागियों ने भाग लेकर योग को जीवन का अभिन्न अंग बनाने का संकल्प लिया।

A pivotal sensitization meeting on Health Technology Assessment (HTAIn) was held at the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, on 17th June 2025, aimed at creating awareness about HTA among Uttar Pradesh State Health Officials. The meeting was organized by Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Associate Professor at KSSSCI and Principal Investigator of HTAIn.
The session, chaired by Dr. M.L.B Bhatt, Director KSSSCI, was attended by key health officials, including Dr. Geetha Menon, Scientist-F, and Dr. Oshima Sachin from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Scientists from the Department of Public Health, Dr. Manish Kumar Singh from RMLIMS, Dr. Vijendra Kumar, Dr Varun Vijay of KSSSCI, and 35 State Health Officials.
Dr. Bhatt, Director KSSSCI inaugurated the session, underscoring the importance of scientific decision-making in healthcare planning and expressed interest in developing a Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) in Lucknow. Dr. Geetha Menon presented the vital role of HTA in ensuring affordable, equitable, and effective healthcare, while Dr. Oshima Sachin provided an in-depth explanation of the HTA process, emphasizing its relevance in evaluating clinical effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and feasibility within the Indian context.
Dr. Vikasendu Agrawal, Regional Director of NCD, UP, also highlighted the significance of HTA in economic evaluation and its potential to support the UP Health Department in assessing health interventions. He encouraged state officials to propose new interventions for HTA evaluation.
Dr. Ayush Lohiya shared the institute’s success in completing four HTA studies, two of which have already been implemented, and reiterated the commitment to generate actionable evidence to guide health policy. He also expressed gratitude to Dr. ParthaSarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in advancing evidence-based health policies in the state.
The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening the HTA ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh, aligning the state’s healthcare planning with the national goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and ensuring that healthcare services remain effective, affordable, and patient-centred.

Tobacco cessation clinic to start soon at Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute- Director, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt
Today, World No Tobacco Day 2025 program was organized at Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute with the theme “Exposing the Temptation”. The objective of this program is to raise awareness about cancer caused by tobacco products and to make the society understand that cancer can be prevented with timely and proper treatment.
In this program, Professor Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt, Director, Kalyan Singh Vishisht Cancer Institute, Lucknow, emphasized on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. He said that people who consume pan-masala, betel nut, tobacco, khaini, gutkha etc. should take the risk of cancer seriously. He said that 80% of cancer patients are tobacco consumers, so people should not turn a blind eye to this truth. The tobacco and nicotine industries are working in a dishonest manner to mislead and addict the youth, just for their profits, every day these industries target the new generation and to retain the existing users they create products which are deliberately addictive. Their misleading advertisements and clever strategies are designed to trap the children and youth. We have to protect our young generation from the misleading advertisements and propaganda being run by this industry.
He also announced that a Tobacco Cessation Clinic (CCL) will be started soon in the Institute under the supervision of the Department of Public Health and Director, KSSSCI.
Dr Pramod Kumar Gupta, Radiation Oncology and Dr AyushLohia, Department of Public Health, organized the event. In his welcome address, Dr AyushLohia said that 1 in every 4 people in India consumes tobacco, with consumption in rural areas being higher than in urban areas. Women who consume tobacco can also suffer from cancer. Dr. AyushLohia also mentioned that 20% of cancer patients are caused by smokeless tobacco consumption, 10% by smoking and 3% by both types of consumption. Even consumption of Paan, Supari and Katha can cause cancer such as oral cancer, gum and palate cancer.
Dr. Vijendra Kumar, Oral Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay, Medical Superintendent, Mr. Rajni Kant Verma, Finance Officer and other faculty members were present in today's program.

World No Tobacco Day

The Department of Public Health, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI), Lucknow, in collaboration with Health Technology Assessment India (HTAIn), has organized a Dissemination Workshop on Breast Cancer Screening on April 24, 2025.
The workshop aimed to share the findings of a recent HTA report on breast cancer screening in India and to promote evidence-based decision-making in healthcare.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Pinky Jowel, IAS, Managing Director, National Health Mission, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who served as the Chief Guest. In her address, Dr. Jowel emphasized the importance of breast cancer screening. She also mentioned the Ayushman Arogya Mandir, and the need for collaboration between the premiere institutes. Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Department of BSBE, IIT Kanpur, who joined as Guest of Honour also stated that collaboration between IIT, Kanpur and KSSSCI will foster innovation in cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
The inaugural session also featured remarks by Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director, KSSSCI, Dr. Sharad Singh, Executive Registrar; Prof. Sabuhi Qureshi, Dean; and Dr. Manish Kumar Singh, RMLIMS, Lucknow.
Highlights of the workshop included the release of the HTA report on Breast Cancer Screening in India by all dignitaries, followed by technical sessions covering key aspects of breast cancer in the Indian context. The report was written and compiled under the supervision of Dr. Ayush Lohia who served as the Principal Investigator of the HTA project. He told that results of this research can help in decreasing deaths due to breast cancer in India. Clinical breast examination by health workers can prevent females from getting cancer and will reduce the deaths among females. Breast cancer screening can also reduce the financial burden for treatment of breast cancer andwho served as the Organizing Secretary and Principal Investigator of the HTA project.

KSSSCI and HTAIn Organize Dissemination Workshop on Breast Cancer Screening to Promote Evidence-Based Healthcare

In a landmark step towards advancing cancer care and research in India, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur (IIT Director Manindra Agrawal and KSSSCI, Director, Madan Lal Brahma Bhatt) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today on 23 April 2025 to expand oncological services and foster innovation in cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between one of the country’s leading cancer research institutes and one of India’s premier technology and research institutions. The partnership is aimed at enhancing clinical and technological capabilities in oncology through the exchange of scientists, collaborative research, and development of novel interventions.
Objectives of the MoU:
Joint research initiatives focusing on cutting-edge oncological solutions
Development and deployment of new technologies for early cancer detection and treatment
Exchange of scientific expertise and faculties for collaborative learning and innovation
Speaking on the occasion, senior officials from both institutions emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the complex challenges of cancer care. This partnership is expected to bring transformative advancements in patient-centric cancer solutions, integrating medical science with technological innovation.
This collaboration underlines a shared commitment to improving cancer outcomes and represents a significant step forward in India’s fight against cancer.
