The Department of Public Health, Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Lucknow successfully organized a two-day Hands-on Workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on 17th–18th March 2026 at the OPD Building of the institute.The workshop was attended by 50 participates from KGMU, RML, SGPGI & LU. The participants included faculties, Residents, project staff from various institutes.The workshop was meticulously organized under the able guidance of Dr. Ayush Lohiya, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health, whose dedication and vision were instrumental in its successful execution. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of the Director, KSSSCI, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt; the Dean, KSSSCI, Prof. Sabuhi Qureshi; the Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr.Vijendra Kumar; and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Varun Vijay, whose encouraging words set an inspiring tone for the event.
The workshop brought together a distinguished panel of eminent experts and thought leaders from premier institutions across the country. The esteemed faculty included Dr. Rizwan from ICMR, Chennai; Dr.Farhad Ahmed from AIIMS Kalyani; Dr.Balendra Pratap Singh from KGMU, Lucknow; Dr. Abhishek Jaiswal from BHU, Varanasi; Dr. Prabhakar Mishra from SGPGIMS, Lucknow; Dr. Pradip Kharya and Dr. Rama Shankar Rath from AIIMS, Gorakhpur; and Dr.Indubala Maurya from KSSSCI. Their vast expertise, insightful deliberations, and scholarly contributions greatly enriched the academic depth and overall success of the workshop.
The workshop aimed to enhance the methodological skills of participants in conducting high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analysis, which are essential for evidence-based decision-making in healthcare. The programme commenced with an inaugural session followed by expert-led sessions covering key aspects such as framing research questions using PICO, literature search strategies, risk of bias assessmentand statistical approaches in meta-analysis.
The second day focused on advanced concepts including screening and data extraction using modern tools, assessment of heterogeneity, interpretation of forest and funnel plots and application of PRISMA guidelines and GRADE approach for evaluating the quality of evidence. The workshop also included hands-on training sessions, group exercises, and a demonstration of PROSPERO registration, providing participants with practical exposure. Renowned faculty from premier institutions including ICMR-NIE, AIIMS, SGPGIMS, GMUand BHU contributed as resource persons, making the workshop highly interactiveand impactful. The event concluded with certificate distribution and closing remarks, marking a successful step towards strengthening research capacity in public health.
