SGRT India Community Meeting 2026
Lucknow, February 28, 2026 – The Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute & Hospital (KSSSCI) today hosted a landmark event, "SGRT India: Advancing Radiation Therapy in India." Organized in collaboration with the SGRT Community, the meeting brought together leading oncologists, medical physicists, and researchers to discuss the future of precision cancer treatment.
On this occasion, the Institute's Director Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Medical Superintendent Dr. Varun Vijay, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department Prof. Sharad Singh, Dr. Pramod Kumar Gupta, and Dr. Rumita Singh, along with all doctors, residents, and staff of the department, were present.
Highlighting Innovation in Cancer Care
The conference focused on Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), a cutting-edge technology that moves beyond simple motion management to full clinical integration. By using sophisticated camera systems to track a patient’s surface in 3D, SGRT ensures that radiation is delivered with sub-millimeter accuracy, significantly reducing the risk of exposure to healthy tissues.
Key Sessions & Distinguished Speakers
The event featured an extensive agenda covering various clinical applications:
• Global Perspectives: Josh Naylor, Principal Physicist from University Hospitals Dorset, opened the technical sessions by highlighting SGRT as a "paradigm-shifting technology."
• Specialized Treatments: Experts discussed the use of SGRT in treating Head & Neck cancers, Breast Cancer, and its vital role in DIBH (Deep Inspiration Breath Hold) techniques to protect the heart during radiation.
• Technical Excellence: Sessions also delved into Stereotactic treatments and the physics behind camera-to-couch shifts, presented by specialists from institutions like Ruby Hall Clinic and Reliance Foundation Hospital.
Expert Panel Discussions
Two major panel discussions were the highlight of the day, focusing on the "Final Frontiers" of Head & Neck treatment and the "New Standards" for Breast, Abdomen, and Thorax care. These panels allowed for a robust exchange of real-world workflows and clinical results among the attendees.
Live Demonstrations
The afternoon sessions featured Live Demonstrations of various kinds of techniques like DIBH for breast treatment, mask-less treatment for head and neck patients, pelvic treatments etc providing participants with a hands-on look at how SGRT integrates into daily clinical practice to improve patient safety and treatment efficiency.
Under the patronage of Prof. M. L. B. Bhatt, the event successfully showcased how Indian medical institutions are adopting world-class innovations to provide more accurate and safer cancer care for patients across the country.
