A special symposium was organized today at Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow on the occasion of “World Hospice and Palliative Care Day”, on the theme — “Palliative Care: Compassionate Approach to Healing.” The Chief Guest of the program was Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt, Director of the Institute, and the Special Guest was Prof. Sarita Singh, Professor and Incharge, Pain & Palliative Care Unit, KGMU, Lucknow. In his address, Prof. Bhatt emphasized that palliative care is not merely about treating the disease but about healing the person as a whole, where compassion, empathy, and sensitivity play a central role. He stated that in life-threatening diseases such as cancer, palliative care serves as an important approach to improving patients’ quality of life. Prof. Sarita Singh, in her remarks, said that palliative care is a compassionate approach that holistically addresses the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients. The symposium saw active participation from Dr, Ritu, Dr. Vijayendra, Dr. Sabuhi Qureshi, Dr. Ayush Lohia, Dr. Varun, Dr. Aseem, Dr. Archana, Dr. Ruchi, along with residents from various departments and nursing staff. Speakers discussed in detail the ethical, social, and medical dimensions of palliative care and highlighted measures to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients.
