KSSSCI Observes International Childhood Cancer Day 2025 to Raise Awareness on Early Detection and Treatment

On 15th February 2025, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI) celebrated International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) with the inspiration of the Director, Prof. (Dr.) M.L.B. Bhatt. The main aim of program was to generate awareness among masses regarding childhood cancers. Dr. Gitika Pant (Associate Professor & Head Paediatric Oncology) talked about the signs and symptoms of cancer. She said that leukaemia (blood cancer) is the most common childhood cancer. It presents with prolonged fever, weight loss, lymph node enlargement, pain, pallor, rashes on body. She said that brain cancer is second most common cancer which present with vomiting, headache, ataxia, diminution of vision etc. Other cancers are Lymphoma, Retinoblastoma (tumour of eyes), Osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma (bone cancer), Neuroblastoma etc. Prof. Sabuhi Qureshi (Dean, KSSSCI) said that if the signs and symptoms are identified early then treatment is possible. Hence awareness is very essential. Dr. Ayush Lohiya (Associate Professor, Public Health) told that the cure rate in kids’ range is 70 - 80%. Hence, treatment is essential. Mrs. Tanuja Jaiswal, (President Inner Wheel Club Lucknow Rajdhani) also contributed in the program. CANKIDS also participated by doing psychological counselling of patient and attendants. Dr. Sharad Singh (Executive registrar), Mr. Rajinikanth Verma (Finance officer), Dr. Rakhi Jain (Associate Professor, Paediatric Oncology) also participated in the program and distributed certificate and prize to winners of drawing competition.
