Today, in Department of Pathology, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow, the advanced ‘Liquid-Based Cytology’ (LBC) testing facility was inaugurated by the Institute’s Director, Prof. M.L.B.Bhatt, with the objective of enabling early detection and better diagnosis of cervical cancer in women.

Today, in Department of Pathology, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow, the advanced ‘Liquid-Based Cytology’ (LBC) testing facility was inaugurated by the Institute’s Director, Prof. M.L.B.Bhatt, with the objective of enabling early detection and better diagnosis of cervical cancer in women.
On this occasion, Prof. Bhatt stated that compared to the conventional Pap Smear test, the LBC technique is more advanced and effective. With this technique, the chances of sample deterioration are considerably reduced, and the test results are clearer and more accurate. This provides greater convenience to clinicians in the detection and diagnosis of the disease.
The Chief Guest at the programme was Prof. R.N. Rao, Professor, Department of Pathology, SGPGI, Lucknow. He provided information about the LBC technique and its utility, and stated that modern diagnostic techniques play an important role in the timely detection and better management of cervical cancer.
On this occasion, a workshop on LBC technology was also organised, in which doctors, faculty members and technical staff from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Onco and Department of Pathology participated. During the workshop, experts provided practical information and training on the proper procedure for sample collection, sample preservation and processing techniques for LBC testing.
Dr. Deepti Mishra, Head, Department of Pathology, Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute, stated that the better quality of samples obtained through LBC technology enables more effective identification of cellular changes. She said that with the introduction of this facility, patients will not have to wait for a long time for their test reports, which will help in initiating further investigations and treatment in a timely manner. If required, other tests such as HPV testing can also be performed from the same sample.
The programme was attended by Prof. Vijendra Kumar, Chief Medical Superintendent; Dr. Varun Vijay, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Pramod Kumar Gupta, Dean; and Dr. Ayush Lohia, Executive Registrar, Dr. Priyanka Sameer, Dr. Shrestha Ghosh along with other faculty members, residents, nursing staff and employees of the Institute.
